Meet the Authors and Your Coaches
Hank Hayes
Mr. Hayes and his team at NLB Tactical had instructed over 20,000 Special Operations, Special Forces and Elite United States Military and Law Enforcement teams and continues to instruct them today. He is also the CEO of Intuitive Self Protection for civilian instruction.
Hank grew up in a rough NYC environment and learned how to read the streets to successfully protect himself and others at an incredibly young age. He officially started studying the martial arts at the age of 10. Fast forward into his late 20’s he worked as an executive protection specialist and instructed the fighting arts in which he holds numerous black belts having studied over 40 different systems of fighting and was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. In his early 30’s he created and patented a training tool that the U.S. government picked for use with departments and agencies that can’t be named. Hank is married with 5 kids and enjoys life to the fullest.
Steve Johnson
Steve Johnson is a founding Lead Instructor with Intuitive Self Protection. He is a Military Small Arms Expert with over a decade of Active Duty Military experience serving mainly in the Intelligence field. He has trained under top instructors in both the Martial Arts/Combatives and Firearms training industries and is an instructor with NLB Tactical. He is an avid competitive shooter and is a certified M4/AR-15 Armorer.
Steve regularly steps outside of his comfort zone to become “comfortable being uncomfortable.” Steve helps others transform their skills, all the way from bystander to the responder, by teaching them to act when the worst happens. He helps them understand that the items that they carry on their belt are merely tools; you are the weapon.
Dan Spagone
Dan Spagone was actively involved with the NJROTC as well as two junior rifle teams and was on the junior pistol team. Upon graduation, Dan attended Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont as a cadet in the Corps of Cadets while under contract with the United States Marine Corps. . He also attended the USMC Officer Candidate School graduating in 2006.
Dan joined the NLB Tactical Team in 2015, quickly becoming a valued instructor that has worked on multiple high level Special Operations Military and Law Enforcement contracts and well as civilian training evolutions with More recently Dan has joined the ISP team bringing with him specialties in both firearms and combatives.
Jared Grant
Jared Grant has been serving on active duty for the past 11 years and is currently in Army Special Operations. His 6x combat deployments include Afghanistan, Iraq/Syria and AFRICOM. He is an avid hunter and competitive shooter and has trained with the NLB team on multiple occasions and is a lead instructor on the ISP team.
Jared is a great instructor and is able to convey the realities of combat in a way that is palatable to the everyday person. He is a leader both on and off the battlefield and has the knowledge and experience to turn you into the protector you need to be.
